Defense Secretary Attends NATO Meetings Virtually

Secretary Austin returned to the hospital this week with a bladder issue.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin canceled his trip to Brussels to attend NATO defense talks in person after being admitted to Walter Reed Military Medical Center on Sunday to address “symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue.” The defense secretary is attending meetings for NATO’s Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) remotely.

“The countries of this contact group, almost two years later, are still united in common purpose,” Secretary Austin said addressing the UDCG. “The Kremlin keeps on betting that we will all lose interest in Ukraine, and that our support will flicker and fade, but I am more determined than ever.

He added, “This contact group remains resolute, undaunted and firm.”

The defense secretary stated regarding the Senate’s passage of aid this week, “The need for this supplemental [funding] may be most urgently felt in Ukraine.” Secretary Austin continued, “Top Ukrainian defense officials have already warned us that their units no longer have the stores of ammunition that they need to hold off Putin’s invading forces.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For healing for Secretary Austin and wisdom for the medical staff attending him.
  • For discernment for the defense secretary as he engages with the UDCG and affirms U.S. support.
